Beefsteak is Back | Highlights from IX, March 2024
Beefsteak came back to Vibiana in a big way on March 2, 2024!
Hosted by Matt Selman (executive producer of The Simpsons), Eric Wareheim (comedian, actor, director), Cort Cass (vice president, comedy at ABC Studios), Chef Neal Fraser (chef | owner, Redbird | Vibiana), Beefsteak IX was an epic dinner in the tradition of old-timey meat and booze-fueled feasts, with all proceeds from the event donated to Share Our Strength (No Kid Hungry). Produced by Amy Knoll Fraser (owner | operator Redbird | Vibiana) and emceed by Billy Harris, the annual event brought together the worlds of comedy and cuisine for a revelatory evening.
The night kicked off with a VIP cocktail party in the upstairs East and West rooms. Guest Chef Chris Cosentino (Top Chef, Iron Chef America, etc) served up oxtail fritti, pate campagna and mini dungeness crab & sea urchin rolls while Las Jaras wines and bottled cocktails from Redbird | Vibiana Bar Director Tobin Shea flowed. Magician Jonathan Sadowski entertained the crowd with his trickery. Following, over 500 guests joined, dressed in their finest attire, wearing custom Beefsteak aprons, in the Vibiana Courtyard for Chef Neals’ beef heart tartare station, twice fried chicken wings, wagyu cows in a blanket, pork lamb and chicken liver mousse.
Then…the main event in the Main Hall! Guests sat at long tables, communal style, with friends old and new, (without cutlery, plates or napkins) feasting on 600+ pounds of beef tenderloin, whole Ora King salmon, grilled cabbage, carrots, fingerling potatoes and Eton Mess for dessert all thoughtfully prepared by Chef Neal and team. Surprise bone marrow luges with Hudson Whiskey NY were offered through the crowd by Chef Neal and team. Dinner music from Teahouse Band was followed by dancing to the sounds of DJ Lena Brown.
All proceeds from Beefsteak IX will be donated to Share Our Strength and No Kid Hungry, working to end childhood hunger in the United States. Chef Neal plus Redbird | Vibiana executive chef Jason Bowlin and Chef Chris Cosentino are past and current participants in their annual “Chef Cycle” charity ride so this organization is close to heart for all.
