L’Effet Papillon, Côtes Catalanes IGP, France 2020
The rockstar husband and wife team of Marjorie & Stephane Gallet without a doubt are making some of the most compelling wines in the South of France. They founded their winery, Le Roc des Anges, in the early 2000’s, and have since cemented themselves as one of the most exciting estates, not just in France, but in the wine world at large. L’effet Papillon blanc is a wine they started producing a few years ago, and is staggering delicious. Comprised of Grenache Blanc and Macabeu, it’s fermented and aged entirely in stainless steal. Textured, and rich, the stainless steal preserves the wines acidity and freshness, making it nearly impossible to only have one glass.
A Los Viñateros Bravos, Granítico, Itata, Chile 2020
A Los Viñateros Bravos is a singular winery. It is biodynamic, solar powered, dry-farmed (using only rainwater), emits no CO2 into the atmosphere, only uses horses in the vineyards and is entirely off the grid. Leonardo Erazo began the winery in 2016 after studying winemaking in all corners of the globe. Forget preconcieved notions of Chilean wine…this is natural winemaking at its very best. Bright, fresh and yet brooding and contemplative at the same time. The Granítico is Cinsault made from 60 year old vines, and aged in concrete. Still new and under the radar, when this winery catches on, it’s going to become impossible to find.
Naveran, Redbird Cuvée, Brut, Penedes, Spain 2017
Naveran has been a benchmark Cava producer since the early 1900’s. They grow their own grapes using organic methods, secondary fermentation happens in bottle and the wine is aged for 12 months on the leaves. They are essentially “Grower Champagne,” but located 30 minutes outside of Barcelona. We couldn’t have been more excited when they agreed to partner with us to make a custom bottling exclusively for Redbird.
